Haubstadt, IN – Apr. 29, 2013.  The Hoosier Tire Midwest Sprint CarSeries will be racing at the Terre Haute Action Track again in 2013. The date for the event has been set for July 2nd.  That night will be NASCAR Night at the track.  Details will be forthcoming in advance of the race.  The UMP Modifieds will be racing to conclude the program.

The MSCS Sprints will share the sprint car portion of the race card with the KISS Series.  The arrangement should further insure a quality field of sprint car competitors.  The event will be the seventh and final race for the 2013 King of Indiana Sprint Series. This race now holds the promise of also deciding the KISS championship.

The event is pivotal for MSCS drivers in that it falls right in the middle of the MSCS schedule.  It will be sixth of thirteen scheduled events this year and also provide fans and drivers with three big events in seven days, all situated in and around the 4th of July holiday.

Action begins Saturday night June 29th at Tri-State Speedway and now continues at the Terre Haute Action Track on Tuesday, July 2nd before winding up Friday night July 5th at the Bloomington Speedway for the Sheldon Kinser Memorial.  This is one week to look forward to.  Drivers will be looking at $2,000 to win at Haubstadt, $2,500 to win at Terre Haute, and $5,000 to win at Bloomington as they make the circuit.

Robert Ballou was victorious at last year’s KISS-MSCS race at Terre Haute which was held in April.  Levi Jones captured a second MSCS race in June which was billed as NASCAR Night in 2012.  This year it will all happen in one night in July!  Defending MSCS Champion Jon Stanbrough posted fourth and second place finishes in those events! He was also the KISS Champion for 2012!

The MSCS season will begin as originally scheduled on May 11th with a co-sanctioned show which also features the United States Auto Club. This season opener for MSCS and first non wing show of the season at Tri-State Speedway will pay $5,000 to win.  It all begins with the Spring Showdown!  It is the first of three races on the schedule this season with a top prize of 5 grand.

Jim Hurtubise (December 5, 1932 – January 6, 1989) was an American race car driver who raced in USAC Champ Cars (including the Indianapolis 500), as well as sprint cars and stock cars (USAC and NASCAR). Hurtubise raced in the USAC Championship Car series in the 1959–1968 and 1970–1974 seasons, with 97 career starts.

The 2012 USAC Sprint Car Series has included multiple winners and some of the Most Exciting Racing on Dirt! Only 26 points separate the top three drivers in the AMSOIL USAC National Sprint Car standings going into this weekend’s final Midwest outings. Friday night’s “Jim Hurtubise Classic” begins two nights of USAC racing at the Terre Haute (Ind.) Action Track, with the “Sumar Classic 100” USAC TRAXXAS Silver Crown finale on Saturday. Dave Darland sits atop the standings, 24 ahead of Bryan Clauson and 26 ahead of Jon Stanbrough entering Friday’s Terre Haute race. The title combatants fared eighth (Darland), 13th (Stanbrough) and 21st (Clauson) in last year’s “Jim Hurtubise Classic,” won by Chris Windom. In two Terre Haute appearances this year, Darland has failed to score a “top-10,” while Clauson has a ninth and Stanbrough has two seconds.

Also on tap Friday night will be the always exciting UMP Open Wheel Modifieds. NASCAR Star Ken Schrader will be piloting the Federated Auto Parts #9 . The UMP Modifieds will be $700 to win. With such a stellar field of talent expected for this Event…

The Wabash Valley Fair Association and Terre Haute Motorsports have entered into a multi-year agreement for the operation of the Terre Haute Action Track racing activities. “We are pleased to have Bob and Reece as the promoters for racing at the Wabash Valley Fairgrounds. The Terre Haute Action Track is going to be the place to come for great racing for years to come with them as our promoters. We welcome them and look forward to a great relationship.” Said Jennifer Cook, Wabash Valley Fair Association President.

Sargent and Track Enterprises, whose promotions have included numerous USAC spectaculars, are involved at Illinois tracks like the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, the DuQuoin, Illinois State Fairgrounds and Macon Speedway, while the O’Connor Family operates the legendary Kokomo (Ind.) Speedway. The promotional duo has exhibited track preparation skills which will ensure continued spectacular racing at the half-mile dirt Terre Haute oval.

The legendary speedway will feature the return of traditional events such as USAC’s “Don Smith Classic” Sprint Week race, “Tony Hulman Classic” sprint race, “Jim Hurtubise Classic” sprint race and “Sumar Classic” Silver Crown Championship race. The MSCS and KISS Sprint Cars will make a return appearance to the schedule this year as well. The track will host multiple NASCAR stars behind the wheels of their UMP modifieds on NASCAR night in June. The UMP Summernationals Tour will stop in July featuring the arrival of the ground pounding Late Models to the speedway after a lengthy hiatus.
